The P-Word, Panic or Peace?

A new title has now been awarded to the Saturday before Christmas. You ready for this one? “Panic Saturday.” I’ve been hearing that come from our television set over the last several days, then last night once again, “Tomorrow is Panic Saturday!” According to those sharing this news, men will be the biggest “panickers” because they wait until the last minute. Well who doesn’t know that? We don’t need no stupid study to tell us females that. Most men will probably wait until Christmas Eve which will now become, “Losing My Mind Monday.” Some will maybe even wait until Christmas Day which will earn the name, “Freak Out Tuesday.” Men will be running over to the truck stop or convenience store for a gift or two. Actually truck stops have pretty good gifts. I want to tell the media that this behavior is nothing new for men, but I understand they have another so-called “study” now in their arsenal to bash the male species even more.

Panic, the P-Word. It’s something that our society seems to thrive on these days. Sitting in front of the television watching news 24/7 can do that to a person, make them panic. The news makes its living off of the P-Word. Panic over what a President does, panic over the government shutting down, panic over the Stock Market, panic over the weather, and of course now, panic over Christmas. Christmas which is supposed to be the celebration of that sweet baby Jesus coming into this world, not a mad scramble to place something under a tree. Whatever happened to “silent night, holy night,” or “tis the season to be jolly fa-la-la-la-la?”

Here’s a suggestion. Shut off the 24/7 for a while or even better, for good, and focus on God. These days I can tell those of y’all who are mesmerized by the dadgum news because I can’t have a sane conversation with you. You’re in a panic whichever side you’re on. If people would spend more time with God’s Word, all the crazy things that we have now allowed to become associated with the Christmas Season and all the junk that we have allowed into our hearts and minds, would be replaced with things that are so much better for us. The G-Word (Greed) would be replaced with Goodness. The R-Word (Rush) would be replaced with Rest. The S-Word (Shop) would be replaced with Serve. The P-Word (Panic) would be replaced with Peace. Peace is the greatest thing about Christmas because it is the beginning of God’s gift of peace that He wants us to have in our everyday walk on this earth and in knowing where we will live eternally.  The only way to find such peace is through Jesus Christ our Savior whom we celebrate on Christmas Day. That little baby in the manger, The Prince of Peace, who would one day die on a cross for all of our sins.

It can be a struggle at times, but I have begun to understand more and more each day the  peace God wants me to have in knowing that He is in control of what is happening in our world today. Everything that has happened, that is happening, and that is to come was written in His Word, it is all in His Plan. I am at peace and filled with amazement and excitement as we watch what was written in His Bible, all unfold. Which P-Word are you going to allow to control your life? Will it be Panic or Peace?

Love, M

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. —Isaiah 9:6
